Creating an Urban Open Space through Public-Private Partnership

ACTY Shiodome is a high-rise apartment building owned by the Urban Renaissance Agency, and located in the Shiodome district of Minato-ku, Tokyo. The site adjoins the Hamarikyu Gardens, a representative Daimyo garden made in the Edo period, and connects with the precious green spaces for the city center. To maximize this great environmental potential, Ward of Minato, the Urban Renaissance Agency, and the other private companies worked together and created an urbanscape open to the public. The Step Garden, the highlight of this space, forms cascades of greenery with twenty-seven dogwood trees and a variety of flowers and plants, and offers a place to get relaxed in the city center. We also worked aggressively to green the walls of the parking garage and the building of the indoor gardens, and contributed to improving the urban environment.
